Kiting
Landboarding
This is a fairly new and exciting form of kiting. It is a fast growing sport as it combines kite surfing and bugging. It is basically kite surfing on land. It give you more of a chance for tricks and large airs than buggying as you are on a lighter board. Also it is easier to start with as boards can costs as little as £100.
Starting off
Once you have bought your board and kite you need to start off. You first instinct(I know mine was) will be to line your board up with the wind, set up the kite, and jump on your board going in the direction of the wind. This is fine as long as its very windy, you don’t care about power, skill tricks and don’t mind ending up a few hundred meters away from where you set up. So I am going to tell you the best way to do it.
Firstly you need to set up the kite as you would normally. Once you have the lines laid out get your board and put so its facing 40 degrees from the wind and practice getting on it. Once you are comfortable that it’s the right way round launch the kite, once its in the air let it fly straight up so that it is above your head. Now that it isn’t pulling walk backwards to your board and get on, still with the kite above your head. Once your are comfortably on the board dip the kite to the side that the bard is facing, this may take a couple of attempts to get used to. If you are pulled forward off the board the kite is too far forward. The board should slowly begin to move, by lowering the kite and bringing it in front off you will go faster and feel the power more. If you raise it again the power will go. It may be surprising but putting the directly in line with the board will actually reduce the power you feel. Now that you moving you may want to try steering. You do this by leaning on the board the way you want to go.
Good luck
