Sanding up

If you have any question or information on surfing that you want to send in please send it to my emal address at woodford_5@hotmail.co.uk

There are many different ways of standing up all as good as each other. The method that I am about to outline is the one that I find the easiest but you may want to adapt it to suit your style. One god tip is that although watching other surfers is often a good way of picking up tips and tricks many experienced surfers used a method called popping up which will make surfing harder for you until you learn how to surf confidently and are very well balanced.

Step 1
After you have caught the wave as I explained in the previous tutorial you are in a position to stand up. Place your hands on the rails (sides) of the board where your ribs end and slide both knees up the board so that you are on your hands and knees like a baby

Step 2
Slide your preferred foot up level with your knee still holding on with your hands. To do this you will need to have your body in a more upright position but keep your back knee on the board.

Step 3
Many beginners will miss this step in order to rush to the standing position. In order to keep yourself balanced and the board under control when you stand remain holding onto the board when you straighten your back leg. You may want to only hold on with one hand once you begin to get used to it. Some times you can surf a whole wave with one hand on the board in the this position

Step 4
Finally you stand. Wait until you have got the board under control and you are heading in the direction you want. Then let go with both hands and bring yourself to the crouched position from which you an surf

By following this simple guide you should be able to stand up after a few goes. A first try saying the numbers in your head as you go through the steps. Once you get used to it try to stand up in a nice smooth motion. Continually going from one step to the next.

Good luck!!! top^^
